The Hattitude ~ The Fall Wardrobe Update

Hats or no hats?

Definitely hats! Hats are a must-have accessory this fall, and since accessories are the most effective and inexpensive way to update our wardrobe for the new season, it's time to shop for hats

For years  (wasted years!) I avoided wearing hats, except for the beanies and summer straw hats, of course. At first I thought that I didn't have a hat-face, and then I didn't feel comfortable attracting attention to myself as hats tend to do. Once I got over my insecurities (love my mid 30s for that!), I added to my wardrobe a newsboy cap and a fedora, and I had a lot of fun wearing them.

I love how hats convey confidence and attitude, and make every outfit look edgy. So, a few days ago, I stopped by the mall on my way from work... and came out with a few more hats. What can I say, each hat style is so different! So now, every morning when I get up and think hmm, who do I feel like today?, I have a hat to pair with my outfit in accordance with my mood. And, since I am a moody person, all my hats will get their due this fall.

Look #1 Fedora
Fedoras are cool. And who does not like cool? This season, they are tall, structured, and exaggerated. I love that Fedoras add an inch or two to my height! I usually wear a Fedora with a simple outfit of similar but not identical color. Cannot go wrong with pairing a grey, or blue, or even brown fedora with a black outfit with minimal accessories. And don't forget to wear your Fedora tilted just a bit.

Look #2 Wide-brim hats

Wide-brim hats are sassy and are a great accessory to many different styles. A wide brim hat in any color (except for black) works great to break up the all-black outfit. I also love wearing camel or brown wide-brim hats that add a final touch to a relaxed fall look, like a blouse with a sweater over it, and skinny jeans, or a boho Free People dress and boots.

Look #3 Cloche hats

Cloche hats are chic and elegant. These bell-shaped toppers are here again, and owning one has always been on my want it list. So I finally bought my very first one. I feel very sophisticated when I wear it with my big black sunglasses, LGB and a string of pearls.

Look #4 Newsboy cap

Caps are head pieces with a don't mess with me attitude. When caps are made of patterned and colorful fabric and stand out alone, the rest of the outfit should be toned down. I usually add a simple small piece to tie down the outfit, like a bracelet in a similar color or tone. I love wearing this cap with a black turtle-neck, skinny jeans and red bracelet. But if the cap is in classic black, grey, or beige colors, then I pair it with a piece that stands out a little, like a simple but chunky sweater in a different color, or a colorful scarf, or a statement necklace

Look #5 Knitted hats

The beanies! They are warm and comfortable. Accessorizing beanies is easy ~ wear them with or without jewels or flowers clipped on. Or, if you are feeling playful, there are beanies with cat ears to reflect your mood. Besides keeping my head warm, I use beanies to pull the outfit together by bringing in the color, the texture, and the relaxed attitude. Just like the caps, I sometimes pair bold bright color beanie with a chic classic look ~ red or bright pink beanie and gray outfit work well.

I hope I inspired you all to add a hat or two to your fall wardrobe!

What style hats will you be wearing this season?
