Five Things To Chew On For The Healthier Us... And Teeny Bikinis

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

I had a beautiful and relaxing Sunday, and it came at the perfect time because I had a busy week. And, unfortunately, busy equals...  junk food!

Just a few days ago I was having lunch at a local Deli and, as soon as I finished eating the fries that came with my tuna sandwich, I moved to the Starbucks nextdoor. I ordered an Oprah Chai Tea Latte and pulled out the Nordstrom's Summer Catalog I received yesterday.

Oh, I just love Summer! Warm weather, blue sky, fragrant farmer's markets, lots of outdoor activities, and, of course, cute summer dresses and sandals...

So I was flipping through the catalog's pages checking out the cute outfits. Life was finally good... Until I got to the swimsuit section. Agh! Instantly, I started beating myself up for eating fries. Even worse, they were not even good! I ate them because I was stressed and tired, but mainly stressed. I can't eat fries if I want to fit into one of those teeny-weeny bikinis! Thankfully, at the last minute I changed my drink order from Coke to water. Phew, at least that...

Are you laughing or do you think that I am crazy or are you even identifying?

Here's the deal ~ I would love to get in shape for Summer, but I do not do diets. I actually get very angry when yet another diet book hits the bookshelves. I don't believe in them, and I think they are unhealthy and deceiving. So far, I don't know anyone who was able to lose weight and keep it off without changing their lifestyle. Those who diet, end up suffering from the deprivation, and then regaining even more weight that they lost. It's true!

I firmly believe that the winning losing weight formula is fairly simple:
~ eat healthy, eat less, exercise, and be happy~ 

Easier said than done, that's for sure! But it is possible, I have been doing it for a few years already and very happy with the results - I am a healthy size 4 and have much more energy than I ever had before. To make it clear, me beating myself up for eating French Fries is nothing more than me being too hard on myself, and this is what I really need to be working on for the sake of a healthier and happier me.

So here are a few things for you to chew on when you stop yourself from grabbing a French Fry, dipping it into a creamy Ranch sauce, and eating it:

1. Don't think you are losing weight ~ but think you are gaining health.

2. Don't think you don't get to eat fries ~ but think you get to respect your body and feed it 'the good things', as Martha says. (And in no ways does it mean you don't get to eat fries.)

3.  Don't think you will miss food ~ but think you will fall in love with a different food, kind of like switching to a new boyfriend.

4. Don't think you will have to push yourself to exercise ~ but think you will have energy to do fun things and overcome personal challenges.

5. Don't think about how many pounds you lost or gained ~ but think what nice thing you should do for yourself every day. Yeah!

So, let's get ready for Summer and fun in the sun. Let's throw our scales away and start a ME project.
