Turning 45: Winter Beauty Guide

Let me get this out of the way: we all age. But who cares ~ age is just a number,  and we really are as old as we feel. Luckily, there are also many tricks and products that can help us look just as radiant and beautiful outside as we feel inside. No, I don't mean injections and facelifts. I mean, we can follow a simple skincare regimen and use a few makeup tricks to help us continue having a beautiful glowing skin.

1. Good skincare starts within ~ consumption of whole foods (no processed foods!) , lots of fruits and veggies, less sugar and salt, plenty of water, good fitness routine, balanced living, and goodnight sleep will help your skin stay young, radiant, and healthy.

Easier said than done! But we should strive every day towards a healthier and happier living.

2. Cleanse the skin well to remove dirt and bacteria.
And that means - remove makeup every day before going to bed. To make sure I get it all off, I use oil-based product like Ole Henriksen Cleansing Duo. I found it to be soft and non-irritating.

Exfoliating is also a must. As we age, skin gets drier, and piling makeup on top of dead cells is not very pretty, and gently scrubbing twice a week will keep your skin smooth and glowing. How does Monday and Thursday sound?

I love Laura Mercier Flawless Skin Face Polish.

3. Moisturize your skin to protect it from weather and from drying up.
At every age, our skin needs different kind of nourishment. So, if you still are using the same moisturizer you used in your 30s, it's time to switch!

Since we now need help to slowly release water into the skin and even seal in the water that is already in the skin, I add a drop of face oil into my anti-aging moisturizer and love the results.

Also, facial masks once a week is great for the skin. It t's like a hydrating shot - it plumps and hydrates the skin, makes it look brighter.

4. Swear by the SPF
Have you heard? Most of the changes seen in aging skin are actually caused by a lifetime of sun exposure!

Application of a broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher must be a part of your routine, even during gloomy winter.

My new favorite sunscreen is Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47. I love how it feels and smells, and how it actually adds a nice glow to my skin.

4. Use makeup routine tricks.
I used to be a very minimum makeup kind of girl, and I still am - I just need help getting that minimum makeup kind of girl look. I mean, it is time to start covering the dark spots that suddenly appeared on my cheeks...

Side-note: I never realized how much money I was saving by not using makeup! But money is just money, right? And I would rather not have the dark spots staring at me in the mirror.

Besides using a primer and a concealer, I found that mixing foundation with a drop of sheer glow creates a radiant finish. Then I add some blush, and voila.

Now it's your turn - what are your skincare and makeup tricks?
